Thanks for the encouragement. If I was more consistent in my shooting that would help. I see what you mean about changing the grip, especially with the Gamo. I have been shooting a Ruger Mark 3 at 25 yards and it is nice to maintain the same grip. Unfortunately, there must be more to it than that as I am lucky to shoot in the 150s at 25 yards. Frankly, I don't know if that is a reasonable starting score or not at that distance. I did some trigger work on it and that seems to help. I sent my Gamo to my son so we could compete on the postal matches so if you see 2 Dougherty's you'll know why. He is an airline pilot and often away so he missed the last match. I think that I have tapped myself out on guns so now I will just keep practicing and maybe edge up toward your great shooting. Ken

Thanks. As usual you are doing an outstanding job of shooting. I have good days and marginal ones. When I don't have some "flyers" my scores are obviously better. Seems I just twitch sometimes. I have been shooting my new Kimber model 82 Government (.22LR) when I can. It sure is a fun gun to shoot, but not as convenient to shoot. I'm hoping the 853 that my wife bought me gets here soon. That one is set up very much like the Kimber and I will be able to shoot it at home. Take care. Ken

What a process. People with irrational fears and incomplete/erroneous information but who are very persuasive manage to bully lawmakers into passing bad laws. Catch you at the next match.

Looks like quite a gun. Is it CO2? Looks like it would be fun to shoot. So many guns, so little time. I was surprised to see that a firearms license is needed for airguns in Canada. Is a license hard to come by? Personally, I find it annoying when people in the US want to keep making it more difficult for law abiding, sane citizens to obtain guns and ammo. It never stops the bad guys from getting weapons. It would really disappoint me to have to obtain a license to buy an airgun. Let me know what you end up getting and no fair using the Condor in the postal matches. Ken

Thanks for the review of the Avanti. So far I have not heard anything negative about it so I will probably order one after I replenish my funds. I'm too much of a novice to make a critique but if I was to hazard a guess, you have probably reached the limits of the Gamo, but have really proved its capabilities. I have just discovered that if I closed the rear sight slot on the Gamo a bit, my scores improved. I think that I have done better with the Izzy because the sight radius is greater. My understanding is that a smaller slot on the rear sight is equivalent to increasing the sight radius. Thanks again and see you at the next match. Ken

Hi Bob, Well I'm home again and trying to get back into the groove shooting. As you'll see, my Gamo score sucked but my Izzy was better. More me than the guns though. I am ordering a Kimber 82G from the CMP. My son has one and I had a chance to shoot it. I also ran across a good deal from them on an Avanti 853. As I was doing some research, I came across a posting of yours on that very gun. I am interested in the Avanti because the sights and general shape of the gun are very similar to the Kimber 82G and it is much easier to carve out time to shoot an air gun vs getting to a range to shoot a firearm. I'm beginning to think that I am becoming rather obsessive about this stuff. Anyway, I appreciated your review of the Avanti as well as the other tips you have sent my way. Congrats on the consistently great shooting too. Ken

Thanks and congrats on your score. You are proof that the shooter is more important than the gun. I still enjoy my Gamo and there is probably no significant difference statistically in the differences in the scores. I have been able to make the Izzy more comfortable in my hand and like the crisper hole in the target and flatter trajectory. Hope your injury is improved. Doesn't seem to bother your scores though.
